SUMMARY:Theatrum Mundi
\nWebinar in Spanish with simultaneous translation into English and ItalianParticipation is free; registration is required at the following link: https://bit.ly/3S5Bhhy \nFilm of the show: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLK8iTIUPsd3ijCkYYlxE-UmvePQ89VEE2 \nIn Latin\, theatrum mundi literally means “theatre of the world.” For Eugenio Barba\, it refers to an intercultural theatre in which artists from diverse traditions work together: from Asia to Japan\, via Europe\, Latin America\, Bali\, and India\, to name a few. \nThe Theatrum Mundi ensemble was born from research in theatrical anthropology\, a discipline founded by Barba with the ISTA (International School of Theatre Anthropology). \nThe underlying idea is that\, beyond cultural differences\, there exists a shared “stage professionalism” among actors and dancers from different traditions. \nThis is why Barba himself speaks of “Eurasian theatre\,” “a technical and theoretical dimension that unites East and West through the actor’s craft.” \nPerformances such as Ur-Hamlet\, Mythos\, and Kaosmos are examples of this approach\, in which different languages\, music\, body techniques\, and rituals coexist on the same stage without being reduced to mere exoticism or folkloric demonstrations.

SUMMARY:Theatre echology: pedagogy as an environment for exchange
DESCRIPTION:Theatre echology: pedagogy as an environment for exchange\nJulia Varley dialogues with Ana Woolf and Ana Correa \nWebinar in Spanish with simultaneous translation into English and Italian \nParticipation is free; registration is required at the following link: https://bit.ly/4hH3Qwq \nHow is theatre knowledge passed on? What role does pedagogy play today in building artistic communities and training new generations? \nThese questions form the basis of a dialogue between Julia Varley\, Ana Woolf – an Argentine actress\, director\, pedagogue\, and author who has collaborated for years with Odin Teatret\, including as an assistant director on productions such as “The Chronic Life” – and Ana Correa – a Peruvian actress\, director\, and teacher working with the theatre group Yuyachkani. \nThese three prominent figures of the international theatre scene share extensive experience in research\, creation\, and teaching\, as well as involvement with The Magdalena Project\, a network for women in contemporary theatre. \nThe event offers a reflection on pedagogy not merely as the transmission of techniques\, but as a practice of relationship\, listening\, and exchange. It envisions a pedagogy capable of generating an ecosystem where experiences\, cultures\, and artistic visions meet\, fostering dialogue across generations\, languages\, and communities in the spirit of shared responsibility.

SUMMARY:Parole\, A Dictionary Preserving the Memory of Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Parole\, A Dictionary Preserving the Memory of Theatre with Eugenio Barba\, Vincenzo Mazza\, Julia Varley.\nWebinar in Italian (with simultaneous translation into English) September 16\, 2026\, 6:00 PM (Italian local time) \nFree participation; registration required at this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/G89nGG2ESR2dJDlIXYE4yA \nThe “Parole” project presents two series of video interviews structured around keywords\, organized as an A-to-Z glossary: “Parole: Dictionary of Eugenio Barba” and “Parole: Dictionary of Julia Varley.” \nLoosely inspired by Gilles Deleuze’s famous “Abécédaire” (produced by Pierre-André Boutang)\, “Parole” grew out of conversations Vincenzo Mazza held with Eugenio Barba and Julia Varley during their 2023 meetings at the Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo and Jacopo Fo’s Libera Università di Alcatraz in Gubbio. \nThrough a selection of words—some related to the professional lives of the director (founder of Odin Teatret) and the actress\, others not—Barba and Varley offer testimonies and reflections. At times\, they step away from their professions and international careers to delve into broader social or philosophical questions\, creating a poignant record of two lives dedicated to theatre.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Theatre in prison
DESCRIPTION:Theatre in prison: Ivana Trettel and Alessandro Arisio of the “Opera Liquida” company (Milan Opera Prison) in conversation with Julia Varley and Patrizia Pertuso. \nWebinar in Italian (with simultaneous translation into English) September 17\, 2026\, 6:00 PM (Italian local time) \nFree participation; registration required at this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/uCNYG_tgS_mxkpyPDOQiUg \nOpera Liquida APS\, founded and directed by Ivana Trettel\, is a theatre company that uses its artistic work to foster social inclusion\, promote legality\, support incarcerated parents\, and prevent at-risk behavior among young people. \nIt uses the stage as a space for reflection and inquiry—both inside and outside prison—regarding current social issues\, staging original productions that often draw upon texts written by the incarcerated actors themselves. \nThe theatrical experience unites inmates and the general public in a shared space for meeting and reflection\, helping to drive change and overcome prejudices and stereotypes. \nSince December 2008\, Opera Liquida has been working with medium-security inmates and former inmates at the Milano Opera Correctional Facility.
